ESTONIAN SECOND SEMIFINAL 2011 RESULTS
Today Estonia had to choose for the second time five participants for the Eesti Laul 2011 final for next Saturday 26.02.2011. Nine participants were presented in a rather un exciting show. Very delight full view was given by the two very nice presenting ladies in extreme extravagant lookalike outfits á la art fashion of the 70s.
Start number one was Sõpruse puiestee & Merili. They presented their upbeat but voice quiet song Varik Rahu, ainult rahu in Esti language. One singing lady, dresses in a white shady robe, accompanied by her casual chick dressed band members offered a sound a bit folk like but further not spectacular show. Shirubi Ikazuchi presented in second position their song St. Cabah. Good voice the electro pop genre seems to be in fashion these days. The two ladies in funky black dress and black etuis gave the Eesti laul 2011 an interesting nuance.
R&B with a jazz voice was offered by Sofia Rubina and her song My Melody was a real up beat song as well presented in English. She was accompanied on stage by a drum kid and a synthesizer. Mimicry – did not only present their song The Storm but as well themselves in very spacy manner, the 80th disco base beat was further expressed with neon lines. Those were not only marking the robe of the band members but as well the distictive outlines of instruments and body parts as fingers, mouth and face. Very artistic and spacy The song was presented in English.
Before the break one must have had decided to bring us all back to nature. With the group Orelipoiss and their song Valss we got to hear a very nice Eesti ballade where the singer was playing the guitar. Not only were the background singing couple dancing away but a band member would utilize grass (yes the green stuff outside in the park) to make one of he instruments supporting the guitar for the songs melody. Tiiu Kiik and her song Second Chance was presented after a short break in the show. The melody was somehow one of a ballade but underlined with a faster beat. The voice of the singer was tuned into a spherical style which made it difficult to understand the lyrics which were presented in English language.
MID presented their song Smile in a very British manner. Two guys in dark suits and a contrabass on stage…..very 60s. A strong presenter was Ithaka Maria her song Hopa’pa-rei! is quite a rocky number and might bring people on their feet. The blond tigress brought along three band members and a bit of a firework.
Rolf Roosalu is apparently dealt as tip with his song All & Now. This love song is upbeat but without being rude to the soul. He presents his song supported by five background singer. This gives the song a nice volume and it remains a while in ones mind.
Nine participants competed in tonight’s Estonian semifinal after an earlier this week disqualification (Uku Suviste’s Jagatud Öö). The decision for the qualifiers made by jury and televoting. Lenna Kuurmaa and Piret Järvis (Vanilla Ninja, Switzerland 2005) hosted the show.
