COMPOSER MIGUEL MAJER (NF 2012) SPEAKS ABOUT PORTUGAL 2012
Taking a break from rehearsals and recordings for the second album of his band “Donna Maria”, musician and composer Miguel Majer is the very embodiment of a man happy in his work. He makes his second attempt in the Portuguese national selection to the Eurovision Song Contest: in 2008, his song “Porto de encontro” by Lisboa não sejas francesa finished 4th but win the ticket to represent OGAE at the second chance contest, although with no success. This year, he’s the responsible for the song to be performed by actor and singer Rui Andrade, fan favorite to win in 2011. Check the interview by ESCPortugal’s Eurico Alves:
How did you react with the invitation to compose a song to “Festival da Canção 2012”?
I accepted the invitation immediately, without even reading the contest’ rules, composers or other data about “Festival da Canção 2012”. It was an emotional decision, as usual.
Do you want to talk about your song?
The song is not finished yet, as I’m writing the lyrics. But I may say that it’s difficult to put a label on a song… I don’t know what to say about it, because the arrangements and the final production are not mine. Probably, the producer invited by RTP, Fernando Martins, will be able to talk about this in a few days.
What are your expectations for this contest?
Well, I must confess that I never predict results! Honestly, I do not worry about it. The quality of a song is not measured by the final score! But I really hope that “Festival da Canção” could be a good moment for the Portuguese music.
What’s your opinion about the other contestants?
I prefer not to make any comments about the other composers… I may like one more than others, as normal, but my own taste has no interest! It’s just that… personal taste! If you ask me for a name… I can say that I’m very glad to join this contest with Johnny Galvão, and old friend… which whom I learned a lot!
What’s your opinion about the selection method and the voting rules?
Well, this is not an easy topic, considering the several experiences made in the last few years…
Do you want to leave a message to the fans?
I really hope that all the fans would enjoy the contest because, more than the competition, this a celebration of music!
