The press conference
RTP has released more details and information regarding the forthcoming “Festival da Canção” in Lisbon during a press conference in RTP’s headquarters which was attended by journalists, singers, composers, lyricists and producers.

At the first press conference in the lead up to the 2012 Festival da Canção, representatives of RTP as well as the hosts Silvia Alberto and Pedro Granger gave a status update on the preparations for Portugal’s favorite TV show. The organisers also took the opportunity to answer questions from local and international media representatives.

RTP presented more details on the theme for this year’s contest: the fado. According to Hugo Andrade, this year the whole show has a common thematic: the Fado, recently awarded as a World Heritage by UNESCO. “This doesn’t mean that we’ll have 12 fado songs competing, but fado will be present for sure in the 12 songs and at the whole show” . Hugo Andrade expressed that the show will be held live from RTP’s studio 1 – “we want to produce a TV-show and not a gala. We won’t have a stage, but six different stages all over the studio. This is a more dynamic and interactive way of producing this traditional show”. The sad news to many fans: only 200 persons will have the chance of attending the show at the venue, “so, our priority will be the singer’s and composers’ fans”.

José Poiares explained who are the composers and the singers, as well as the voting method – data that our readers had the chance to know in advance in previous articles. He also expressed its appreciation for the hard work of all the team – producers, singers and musicians. “I have listened to some songs and I can ensure that we have quality here!” Hugo Andrade explained that “Festival da Canção” is one of the most relevant TV-shows, so that means that “producing the festival and to represent Portugal in Baku was always a certainty”. After an audience question it was revealed that the juries (50% of the final voting) are this year encouraged to listen to the songs more than just the once in the rehearsal as they watch it.

We asked RTP’s CEO if the fans will have the chance of listening to the songs before the March 10. The answer was immediate: “The 12 songs will be listened only during the final, and never before“.

Later on, we’ll give you more details regarding this meeting with the press. Meanwhile, a non-edited videos with the hosts (in Portuguese):
