The Portuguese national broadcaster announced that in the upcoming edition, the country is not interested to join the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. This is what José Poiares, RTP Head of Delegation, told today to oikotimes.com, although he provided no reasoning on this.

Portugal participated twice in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest: in 2006 with Pedro Madeira and in 2007 with the young singer Jorge Leiria, but the results in both editions were not positive. This decision was already announced to EBU/UER.

No surprise really. Sort out the voting because Eastern countries are starting to do since about two years ago the same in JESC as in ESC and only vote for themselves. The idea was good but with this bad voting system it just won't work.

As portuguese, I totally support Jose Poiares' decision! I think it's the best choice in JESC. Let us concentrate in ESC ando, who knows, in EDC

Portugal sent in two years two excelent songs and voices to JESC. The results were really unfair and the show has no quality, so I'm very happy that RTP withdraw from this... well done

well done portugal. jESC is nonsense. And ex-soviet countries are voting for each other once again. Greece should pull out but i doubt because the show will take place in Cyprus

Well done Portugal! And we should also stop 1 year in the ESC: 69 points with Vânia?! I understand Spain and Ireland: ESC must change a lot... I like Dima ilan and Ani Lorak and i think it was fare but the voting process is a mystery. ESC Mafia??? JESC stinks... : ((
