According to secure sources to www.mad.tv, Sakis Rouvas will represent Greece in Russia next year! Dimitris Kontopoulos will be the composer of the song. For the first time ERT decides about Eurovision so early in the middle of the summer. This is an exclusive report of mad.tv. Sakis Rouvas represent Greece in Eurovision 2004 with the song Skake it and reach the third place. Also Sakis was the host for the 2006 edition which took place in Athens!

UPDATE
The Greek national broadcaster confirmed the news to oikotimes.com few moments ago but officially they will launch a special press conference most likely in September. This makes Greece the first country revealing its artist for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. The song might be also internally selected but for sure either internally or selected by the public will be delivered by Dimitris Kontopoulos, secure sources told us.

It's obvious that Greece want to win again. ERT trying to make one big and strong team for next year. Rouvas-Kontopoulos-Evaggelinos and more... After a successful year with Kalomira, Secret combination and the 1st place in semifinal and the 3rd place in the final, Greece for sure is one of the strongest candidates for the trophy!!! With a big promo tour, amazing presentation of the song, one up tempo song with new elements and something more original(not the same recipe) Greece can do it again!!!

well sakis is a great choice....i personally think he should have won 2004 and possibly deserved it more than helena.......not sure tho coz im fans of them both........for him to go again is very risky.......im glad ERT chose him for the reason that I am now relieved that Greece will be represented by another fantastic artist......however maybe it is someone else's turn? For those complaining for a lack of selection, you have to remember that interest has been MUCH HIGHER in Greece the years when there is an Internal Selection than years with National Selections. The last 2 years, the interest has died down A LOT in Greece. Our 3rd place with Kalomoira really brought some back. The thing is, with Internal selections bigger names go. And when bigger names go, the interest is higher. SMART MOVE BY ERT! Last year ERT also had intentions to choose Elli Kokkinou internally, but she was pregnant so she said no. Elli Kokkinou would be another AMAZING choice this year.

Baby Alone we have a say in Greece ' pies ksidi' meaning get your country to send a decent song than cursing the Greek one. Sakis is going to win it next year for sure guys.. @a007 And what happened with the popularity of Kirkorov in 2004 when he was the producer of Agurbash?? She didnt even qualify to the final even if Kirkorov brought the ONE AND ONLY Alla Pughachova to Kiev in order to suport her. Also for those who dont remember Kontopoulos won the 2003 Greek Final but it was the jury who decided that Manto should go to eurovision. Also in 2006 EVRYONE knew that the results was fixed for "everything" to win over his song.So ERT owed him in a way.

when sertab and ruslana won eurovision the song was internally selected why should it be a problem now with sakis? actudally i believe that ert apointed both of them because they are a great duo. They have 2 MAJOR dance hits in Greece (ola giro sou girizoun, and the latest kai se thelo) and when a team works great together there is no need to change it. I believe that Fokas Evagelinos will also be a part of the team so Greece has a lot of changes to win this year , not only because of the strong team but also because this team wont participate with an other country as they did in 2008 with Ukraine.

a007, you have a valid point in that Kirkorov is famous in all former Soviet states and that helps hugely, plus slavic brothers voting each other indeed. But we have to admit having an extremely Esc friendly song by Kontopoulos with an impressive production combined with the awesome choreography of Fokas Evagelinos, did the trick for Ukraine too.

It is no secret among people in the music industry here that Kontopoulos composed Shady Lady for Ukraine. Officially he was presented as the producer of the song, but Kirkorov is a friend of Dimitris Kontopoulos and asked him to compose Ukraine's song, meaning due to Kontopoulos's song Ukraine reached 2place this year again:)

in 2006 and 2008 I fully supported Kontopoulos. He has many market success in radio etc but when it comes to ESC i hate seen internal selections of songs. Kontopoulos MUST compete with others in order to deserve a representation for Greece. When it comes to a singer it is understood that a big name can only be selected internally and not through competition (as they would never have accepted to compete). Countries must give the RIGHT to viewers to pick their song. Totally unfair and fixed situation

Kontopoulos has had a huge string of hits on Greek radio. I think for him to succeed, he needs to compose a song for Greece in his mind like he has, and NOT for Eurovision like he did with Martakis that SUCKED. His latest radio hit (still on the radios now) is Tamta's "Ela Sto Rythmo"

First of all the luckiest person in this story is the composer since it is the easiest thing in the world to compose a song better than "shake it" on the other hand ERT shouldnt listen to the eurofans AT ALL!!! In 2008 it was proven that eurofans have no power and no idea. They hated Bilan and his song and they supported Swden like crazy. The result? Bilan won and Sweden came 18th.

@ 27boy: surely ERT making this announcement will only make big artists in other countries want to represent their country even more. They tend to be very unsure of Eurovision but as soon as they realise another big star is doing it, they "follow the crowd" - ERT should have announced this when all the other countries chose their performers... now I guess other broadcasters are going to be submitting Big stars before the new year. I heard on TRT that they are in talks with Turkish Megastar Tarkan to do ESC.. that would be something to see for sure and would surely surprise everyone (including ERT :P )

Well Sakis has "star" quality BUT the song is VERY IMPORTANT so u cant be sure.This year "always and forever" was average for most HORRIBLE for me(it isnt even played at clubs.....).PLUS Charlotte/Hero must be a lesson for most who have things for sure .......! I only hope that Kontopoulos won't write something that HE believes it's suitable for the foreign audience (like "Always and forever"), BUT a dance song like those he writes for the local pop stars (like "Eisai oti thelo", "Alli mia fora", "Ola gyro sou gyrizoun" etc) and even better! And be careful with the lyrics, they should flow easily and NOT be like "Shake it" or "Always and forever" which neither sounded too good, nor they were pleasant for the ears, too many words that the singer struggled to offer to the audience. Please, take a lyric writer who knows how to write in english, preferably a native speaker like Terry Siganos, not an amateur like Gereothodorou (as far as english language is concerned).
