We now turn the page onto a mediterrean Island which is not particularly known for it's sucess. It is mostly known for being part of the mass political voting that has hit Eurovision with it's exchange of it's 12 points to Greece. That quickly tell us that the country is Cyprus.
The Cypriot entry entitled "Firefly" is penned and composed by the singers' brother Nikolas Metaxas. His sister of course named Christina Metaxas will be performing her enchanting ballad in position number 7 just after the pre-contest favourite Norway.
The Selection Christina Metaxa will sing the 2009 Cypriot entry "Firefly". The national final consisted of ten songs, all of which had English titles. After all ten songs had been heard the televoting lines opened and Christina won by a landslide. In fact, almost double any other amount. Therefore, Christina shall sing "Firefly" in Moscow, a song that was written and composed by her older brother Nikolas.
The Artist Christina is one of the younger participants this year at just 17 years old she is shouldering the responsibility of representing her country at Eurovision. Despite her young age, she has already had an interesting career. She is known because of her brother Nikolas who came second in the Greek version of X Factor. While it is important to note that she had a leading role in the Cypriot version of Mamma Mia. She is also an author and poet and is ready to publish her first children’s book.
The Song Christina has a soft, gentle and mellow voice, which is matched by the gentle melody of the song that slowly gathers pace as it progresses. The song is very summery and I could happily listen to this on those longs trips with the windows down and could happily listen to it sat on the beach relaxing. Basically, it is a pretty amiable song. She doesn’t over stretch her voice, doesn’t attempt t reach many high notes and her performance in both the national final and Greek final were plain and simple and this was pretty effective. I think this could make the biggest impression if she takes to the stage entirely alone and that will make the audience focus just on her and they will be able to focus on the soothing melody that accompanies this song. It is quite similar in style to the singer Jewel. The new final polished version is also very pleasant a god effort from Cyprus.
We wish Christina Metaxas the best of luck in Moscow hoping to bring back a good result to Cyprus which is much anticipated.
