Today we will be looking at a successful nation since their first victory back in 2005 thanks to Helena Paparizou's entry "My Number One". Consecutive top 10 results since then have led the country of Greece to turn back onto one of their biggest superstars for this years' edition hoping to take it back home after coming in 3rd place last year.

This year's entry from Greece will be sung by Sakis Rouvas is entitled "This Is Our Night". It is penned by Graig Porteils & Cameron Giles-Webb and composed by the popular Greek Dimitris Kontopoulos. As before mentioned Sakis will be going back to Eurovision after coming in 3rd place back in Istanbul hoping to bring it back to the Meditterean in Greece. He will be singing in position number 13 in the semifinal hoping to add to his luck.

The Selection
Sakis Rouvas will return to Eurovision for a third time and in 2009 he will represent Greece for a second time with the song “This Is Our Night”. ERT the national broadcaster decided to hold an internal selection and it was revealed in late 2008 that Sakis Rouvas would be representing Greece in 2009. A song selection show was to be held and three songs were presented and “This Is Our Night” won by a landslide.  The song selection show featured many other Eurovision representatives including Jade and Chiara.

The Artist
Sakis is touted as the ultimate pop star in Greece. He released his albums in Europe and held a concert at the Olympia in 2002. One of the more famous moments in his career was his 3rd place at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul.  He also sang at the closing ceremony for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Sakis has also won a number of awards and he won the World Music Award for World's Best-Selling Greek Artist in 2005. He has recorded an impressive 13 albums and two of these were live recordings. Having quite an extravagant career, he has also been a television host for the Greek version of X Factor and he co-hosted the 2006 Eurovision Song contest with Greek-American Maria Menounos, thus making him an amateur pro when it comes to Eurovision.

The Song
There was a lot of hype surround the song from Sakis and I much prefer this song to his 2004 entry. So, without sparking any more rage from Oikotimes readers I shall try not to comment on “Shake It” in a negative light.  “This Is Our Night” is one of the liveliest songs in the competition and perhaps one of the liveliest songs to be entered into Eurovision for years. It starts like a dance track with modern beats and Sakis’s vocals are on top form with this song. I could really imagine this song being one of the favourites to qualify and even make the top 5. It will have people dancing and again much like Azerbaijan I can also see people listening to this on the beach and dancing in a club. If Sakis pulls off a good live vocal and a good performance, I could really see this song going places. I just hope they don’t proceed with pulling his clothes off like they did in 2004. I can’t imagine that he will not be able to create a semi spectacular performance and if his video is anything to go by he can realy dance especially for someone in his thirties, throwing himself around the floor actually makes we worry he is going to seriously hut himself. Greeks tend to upull off the choreography well as Helena Paparizou and Kalomoira but had well polished dance routines so Sakis will undoubtedly be no exception. Perhaps the final thing to say, this could be a contender for a winner, it’s only flaw is the cheesy lyrics “Fly to the top, baby” are little awkward and a little cheap, but if Eurovision fans want an upbeat winner this year, perhaps Sakis is their man.

We wish Sakis the best of luck in Moscow and hope that he can take the contest back into the Meditterean as a great contest springs to mind when I think with regards to Athens 2006.
