The annually anticipated musical event organized by the European Broadcasting Union which is entitled the Eurovision Song Contest was initially created with the aim of bringing nations within the European continent closer together after a series of wars which took place shaping up Europe we all know it in the present. Years advanced and the contest did not only remain a musical competition but it also became a visual spectacle in which artists would be chosen by their respective nations based on their sex appeal in order to attract more viewers promoting the event as a show instead of just a musical competition. Together we are going to look at all the sexy females who have graced us with their presence during since the inception of the popular music event.

During the early years of the Eurovision Song Contest, the females had a sort of charm which they used to get the judges to fall in love with them awarding them high marks even though the song would be utterly dreadful. This was not always the case though as some participants had the complete package. We will start by taking the first couple of years of the contest such as 1956, the winner at the end of the evening being Lys Assia was a very beautiful lady in her time and her rendition of “Refrain” along with her pretty face was enough to swoon the judges in her favour garnering a victory. In 1957, the contest moved on to Germany where Corry Broken with her entry “Net Als Toen” ended up as victory stealing the spotlight due to the fact that her face was quite extraordinary not to mention that she also had an amazing body figure which people might have died for. During the next contest, I could not find an extremely pretty female but when looking at both the performances of the two artists I mentioned you can note that they have that extra charisma giving them a certain charm. In 1959, Cannes was chosen as the host city and being the city of love, there was bound to be a pretty female somewhere. In fact this was the case as the Danish representative whose name is Birthe Wilke was quite fetching for her slender image. She was already quite popular in the Eurovision scene, known for putting on quite a long smooch just a couple of years earlier with her partner in music.

One country that generally knows how to impress with its female gender is Sweden who in 1961 sent Lill Babs who was quite fashionable at the time sporting an interesting hairstyle while having a very pretty face. In the next couple of years, there was not a worthy sexy performer so to speak although many great songs were in contention for victory with some still mentioned to this day. In 1964, the contest moved to the Scandinavian country of Copenhagen but the person to impress was the blue eyed drop dead gorgeous Gigliola Cinquetti, who wowed the judges with exuberance earning victory at the end of the night with the song “Non Ho L’Eta” which is still quite popular in its home country of Italy. With regards to the latter performer she seemed to be the quiet girl that people might take advantage of but nothing of the sort happened. Moving on to the next two years of the contest, we saw a barefooted lady whose name is Sandie Shaw on the shorter side garnering the first victory for the United Kingdom also taking up this award for the sexiest lady thanks to her antics which included wearing an interesting design set to garner support. Another lady whose name is France Gall seemed to be quite interested in the times’ haute couture as she was sporting quite the ensemble not to mention the very popular hairstyle at the time being the typical bob, whilst also having a beauty spot which was thought to enhance beauty although my personal view was that it was rather hideous. The last couple of years in the decade of the 60’s were not quite enthralling in terms of beauty but on the other hand, the contest was growing at an alarming rate.

The disco dancing decade of the 70’s proved to bring about several changes and this is because new fashion was now existent with even more interesting designs to watch and with even more beautiful singers to impress the on looking public and the voting jury. In 1970, the contest is known for bringing about the first ever win for Ireland with Dana racing to victory. In fact the Irish star who was still a little girl at the time was very beautiful having some exuberant features in the form of brown hair, brown eyes but mostly that pretty face which never ceases to amaze. I would not mind her to have been my girlfriend if I had lived through that period. The runner-up during the same evening that Dana won was Mary Hopkin whose bid for the United Kingdom ended up as one of those 15 runner-up finishes. Meanwhile, Hopkins was quite pretty having blonde hair and some nice face features described as “angelic” by the BBC commentator. With regards to her attire there was much to be desired though as the dress closed up every inch of her thin body meaning that people could not be impressed in any way. The United Kingdom was doing everything in its power to impress and it did in 1971 as Clodagh Rogers turned up wearing some interesting attire in the form of a pink shirt and a glittery pink shorts meaning that her legs were showing in full swing without leaving the on lookers left to be desired showing a bit of skin. The entry only finished as the third runner-up but it signalled the beginning to a new era with regards to fashion.

In 1973, the Israeli beauty of Ilanit proved to be successful as although it was their first venture into the contest, they wanted to impress by sending the most incredible package in all aspects with the final results being a respectable fourth place. A year later, the contest moved on to Brighton in the United Kingdom as Luxembourg could not host due to financial reasons. It was a very popular year though as it was the year it which Abba won becoming quite popular all around the world. The female members of the group being Agnetha and Frida were really fetching with very much amazing face and body features. They both featured clear Swedish characteristics which many desire for, although they seemed to innocent to even go to the next step. Also impressing that year was the entrant for the United Kingdom namely Olivia Newton John who would become a popular musical actress a couple of years later, being the main role in the hit movie musical “Grease”. She was very pretty and graced the stage in a very long blue dress which really boded well with her body fit. In 1976 the contest was whisked away into The Netherlands and one person who truly caught the eye of the people in sight was the French representative Catherine Ferry who finished in the runner-up position with her entry “Un, Deux, Trois”. The singer brought out something very much unexpected from France and that was her happy non-ballad entry but apart from that she was truly a French mademoiselle following the fashion world like crazy it seems. She had a very pretty face complimenting her bob hairstyle.

A new decade was fast approaching and everyone knows that new times calls for new hairstyles, clothes and even dance moves. The start of the 80’s was characterized by two beautiful ladies, the first represented being Ajda Pekkan who represented Turkey and the second being Samira Bensaid who represented Morocco on their only venture to the Eurovision Song Contest. Both ladies were very pretty even though their “crazy” hairstyles made them look a tad older than their real ages still exciting people present who made up dreams about them. Progression characterized the times and in fact from 1981 to 1985, there wasn’t one sexy female artist that took part. The return of beauty was imminent and led to consistency as every year from 1986 onwards will consist of someone who impressed with physical features. The first to be mentioned has to be Sandra Kim who represented Belgium and won despite not being really 18 years of age. The singer clad in a white and pink suit looked very slick and impressive during her rendition of “J’Aime La Vie”. The 80’s proved to have an impact on the next artist I have chosen. Kate Guldbrandsen represented Norway in 1987 with her entry “Mitt Liv” although the image of her wardrobe choices being a black frilly skirt, a black polo neck and a fitting blue blazer were surely to be remembered. Another interesting effect of her image was her spiky hair could be portrayed as a hedgehogs’ back. Still though she looked really sexy as she was quite thin and looked to impress with a hard rock image.

Towards the end of the decade, the contest might have hit its best years in terms of both music and beauty. In 1988 the contest saw another star in the making in the form of the Swiss representative Celine Dion who would go on to sell millions of albums in the future and also become the second highest paid artist in 2008. The singer was dressed in a double breasted white blazer similar to that of Sandra Kim and a pink tutu. Although fashion was definitely not the pinnacle of her performance, Celine has a pretty face and could be described to be sexy by many as well. The artist herself was quite special as even her accent attributed her sexiness. Within the same year another huge talent was discovered in the form of Lara Fabian whose performance for Luxembourg was a bit overshadowed in fourth place. The singer was clad in a pink double breasted shirt and a black pair of trousers. She has beautiful eyes and as time progressed she has grown more beautiful.

The next couple of years proved to be vital in the development of the Eurovision Song Contest due to the fact that the decade produced several musical hits as well as several sexy singers. We started off with the contest heading to Zagreb where one of the most impressive females had to be the young Emma who represented the United Kingdom taking them to sixth place. Emma was still a bit influenced by the past decade but she looked gorgeous on the night in her attire yet left to be desired by many. She should have scored more just because of that. Next we move on to the Eurovision Song Contest that took place in the city of Rome, the capital of Italy. This particular year is known for the fact there was a tie in first place and both ladies really look exuberant. Amina, the representative of France looks typically Mediterranean with her hot saucy skin colour as well as Carola, the Swedish representative who is a typical Swedish looking female being brunette, fair skinned and just amazing looking. The Irish domination had just started but in 1993, the person who caught my eye was none other than runner-up Sonia who looked really fetching in her purple attire while looking absolutely ravishing. Staying in Ireland namely at the Point in Dublin, we move on to the Eurovision Song Contest that took place in 1995 were the most fetching acts of the evening had to be Darja Svajger who was wearing a beautiful long black dress revealing some assets with the main aim being to astonish those voting as well as those present in the hall ending in seventh place in the long run. In the same year she was also joined by sultry Spanish singer Anabel Conde who ranked in second at the end of the vocals.

Age might be a factor at the contest to prove where you stand in life but the 1996 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place in Oslo put things into perspective as an aged singer in the form of Elisabeth Andreasson looked astounding on stage in a long black dress which shimmered in light. The next artist I chose might be described as one of the sexiest singers ever to grace the Eurovision stage. I am speaking with regards to Gina G who took the stage along with Elisabeth only to impress in her vibrant shimmering dress and sexy figure. The ex-Yugoslav countries know how to put on a show but in the case of Croatia back in 1998, the show was the female representative Danijela whose black robe was covering the most impressive of white dresses ever revealing a little more skin than expected. The last year of the decade saw the contest head east to the town of Jerusalem, Israel. One of the most impressive artists during the evening had to be the runner-up at the end of night namely Selma whose young spark and blonde hair impressed many viewers around the world yet leaving many to be desired by the selection of attire.

The last decade has seen the most extravagant of changes in the Eurovision Song Contest at the domination of the act itself has over shunned the vocal performance of several performers. We first head on to Stockholm, Sweden home of the contest a mere nine years ago where the most impressive female had to be Alsou who represented the nation of Russia succumbing to a runner-up status at the end of the night. She was clad in a skimpy shade of brown top with a matching pair of tight trousers all shimmering in the bright lights. Another person who was mentioned as a potential winner that evening was Ines who was dressed in very interesting attire along with a cowboy hat putting viewers in a completely different theme for her country pop song “Once in A Lifetime” thinking they might have be in store for an interesting night with the star. Another pretty female who graced the stage in Copenhagen during the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest was Rollo who was the runner-up along with King. Her Scandinavian beauty was widely noted by the press that year so it was no wonder that she is on this list. The next year saw the festival move into the baltics to Tallinn, Estonia in what was one of the most brilliant contests ever. Three singers in particular were utterly amazing in appearance and style. We start off by Ira Losco who was almost the champion at the end of the night but her white cat suit and amazing charisma was not enough to get those final couple of points. The next artist clad in an interesting jungle dress look was Jessica Garlick whose pretty face and amazing rendition of her ballad “Come Back” was rewarded with a second runner-up finish along with my third choice being Swedish singer Sahlene who was representing the host country Estonia with the song “Runaway” while dressed in impressive white attire. She looks quite young as well and I think many people were dreaming of her that night.

Next we move on to the contest held in Riga, Latvia where the most enticing, exuberant acts had to be Sertab Erener clad in very interesting attire made out of what seemed to be drapes. The artist was sweating so hard that it did not look like she was singing but like she had a rough night. Another artist which impressed with her sweet vibrant look was Brigitta clad in a beautiful long white dress looking to impress the viewers at home in sultry fashion. One of the top five sexiest singers to be announced later on has to be Ruslana, the Ukrainian representative in the 2004 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Wearing brown leather material and joined by her wolves, she seemed to be at the centre of some sort of theme which would be provided in some X-rated movies. A politically ridden country was the host of the 2005 edition of the festival and another person who will surely be in the top five of the sexiest female artists surely has to be Helena Paparizou, the winner of the country for her native country of Greece. The artist was clad in a golden rust coloured dress with quite some cleavage showing. Nonetheless her performance was impressive, her body is desiring yet her voice might have not been 100% but that does not matter in this case. Another singer as equally impressive as the Greek artist was Shiri Maymon clad in an amazing golden gown again with the cleavage shown pretty beautifully looking to impress.

Home of the Olympics, Athens was the place to be in May 2006 as the Eurovision Song Contest was taking place in full swing. One of the big favourites for the trophy was Belgium’s Kate Ryan clad in an extravagant peachy orange number which did not turn head unfortunately and only left the singer languishing in her bedroom thinking of what went wrong. Even more impressive was Tina Karol representing Ukraine. Dressed in a short white dress with a red touch, showing some skin finally singing her way to the final and to a respectable top ten finish. With regards to the 2007 edition of the contest, I chose three ladies who are quite talented in their vocal abilities although I am sure that they could do other work should they seek to do. I am speaking about Serebro whose “Song #1” came in third place. Two years ago many beautiful females graced the Eurovision stage but the two I have chosen are Kalomira for Greece whose looks like a new version of Helena Paparizou as well as Morena from Malta who is a true Mediterranean beauty and impressed many people yet remaining in the semi-final stage. The last beauty I want to discuss with you is just a couple of years old. Aysel from Azerbaijan has left mouths completely open and her choice of attire left everyone baffled on what to look at during the presentation of the entry. She is utterly amazing and could always turn to modelling should her singing career does not end up successful.

Therefore there we looked at the people who have graced us with their presence and charmed all of us with their exuberant beauty. Who is in your opinion the sexiest female in Eurovision History? Do tell us as we would like to hear from you. I tackled many names but as I said I had to leave some persons out due to several facts and one could also note that my personal opinion should not be yours as well as what looks beautiful to me could also look horribly disgusting to you.

Sexiest Females
i) Greece 2005 – Helena Paparizou
ii) Russia 2000 – Alsou
iii) Estonia 2002 – Sahlene
iv) Ukraine 2004 – Ruslana
v) Sweden 1983/1992/2006 - Carola

So sorry Alexa, I might have deleted your comment by mistake but I assure you that it was just a mistake and nothing else. Any mistakes in the article have now been fixed. I was never at ease writing this piece because there are many more sexy people to write about and you would still want to be diplomatic. Next weeks' subject will be much more debatable I'd believe. Keep on reading. :)

To mention Emma from 1990 in the context of sexiest females and not to mention Joelle Ursull is at least offensive!
