Montenegro's broadcaster RTCG has claimed financial reasons this morning for withdrawing from the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. In a short statement, the broadcaster told the local press that the decision has been taken in order to reach financial consolidation after three years as an independent state.
Montenegro debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Previously the country participated as part of Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro (from 2004 to 2006). The 2005 entrants from Serbia and Montenegro, No Name, were from Montenegro, as the 1983 and 1984 entrants for Yugoslavia. The country made its solo debut in the 2007 contest so far only managing poor results without qualifying to the final. 2009 saw the country's highest place with an 11th place in the first semi-final.
