Moments ago, Maro Litra, who since September has voiced her wish to represent Greece in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo, slammed the Greek national selection procedure. The Greek-Canadian singer, who was obviously upset and sad over ERT's decision not to include her in the Greek national final, stated "It's all about Katerine Avgoustakis, the rest [of the artists] are for the eyes of the viewers", seeming to imply that the broadcaster is unfairly favoring the Greek-Belgian artist. The show's panel which aired the footage, went on to express worries about the names selected when other artists like Chrispa (NF 2008), Kostas Martakis (NF 2008) and Giorgos Sampanis wanted to be in such a selection and the Greek broadcaster ignored them as well. Meanwhile, STAR Channel seemed to express what most Greeks thought after the first leak of the participants list: that a total disaster for Greece is expected in Oslo this year! We couldn't agree more...

kathrin17 how can you know what maro Lytra discussed with ERT?This is just false rumour...i don't think that maro discussed with ert whatsoever!All in all, i believe they could include maro.I wouldn't like to see Martakis let alone chrispa again. I think greek final has started just fine!i have high hopes this year...

@Kathrin17, that is exactly what I wrote about the record companies! lol. The thing you wrote about Lytra, was not only her view. It was from the all the labels involved. They were open to submit whoever they wanted, but ERT's favoritism of Katerine in the NF and how it would be handled forced the labels to act accordingly and submit lesser known names. It was reported weeks ago that the labels were not willing to put up better known names because of the Katerine issue. I can prob. find a star report for that too easily.

@ Greekboy As far as i know (and believe me i know very well) record companies could submit any entry they would like too. Then ERT would choose over these entries. I know very well that Lytra said to ERT that she "can not participate in a National Selection with names like Avgoutakis, that are not as famous as she is , and loose over them". Of course ERT could not give a guarantee over that.

@Kathrin17, It is not really an issue of only Maro Lytra vs. Katerine Avgoustakis, but really an issue of how ERT is handling the NF which seems to favor Katerine, and how the labels are acting accordingly by submitting lesser known names as proposals instead of other names (like te ones mentioned in the article) that were also interested. There is obviously sometime somewhere in this procedure that is raising the red flag for the labels. For the record by the way, "Kaneis Lathos" was a moderate hit. If I remember correctly, it was in the top 10 on the digital download chart and I think top 20 in the Nielsen Airplay chart. :p And I'm also sure that "H Mixani Tou Xronou" did somewhat OK. Of course not chart toppers, but still.

First of all Alenka is NOT from Switzerland. That is just a lie. How is it possible for her to be in Switzerland and to know what STAR channel is reporting in Greece and in Greek ? So Alenka is just a nickname of a Greek editor that doesn't even know that Germanou is the lyricist of the winning Greek entry.
As for Maro Lytra , as I posted before , i really do not understand why Lytra should be a "first name" and Avgoustakis a "second"? Lytra had never one single chart song and people know her only because yellow press is interested in her personal life.

And now we get to see exactly what is going on behind the scenes, and what all the rumblings have been saying for weeks now. It was known from beginning that the record labels put up unknown names because of the selection procedure favoring Katerine. What a shame really. Maybe ERT will wise up following some media reaction, but I doubt it. @beachboy, no, that comment was from STAR channel.

Maro Lytra has a point. ERT probably hopes that Katrine Avgoustakis is the next Elena Paparizou, but there is no guarantee the Greek public will support her. Also, it's far too early to predict whether or not Greece will do well in Oslo.
