Maarja-Liis Ilus, the 1996 and 1997 Estonian representative in the Eurovision Song Contest, is performing the role of Evita Perón at the musical “Evita”. “Evita” was composed by Andrew Lloyd Weber and written by Tim Rice in 1976 and quickly gained a world-wide fame. Now in Estonia, the musical will go on at the Nokia Kontserdimajas this December, 18, 19 and 20. Several other dates are scheduled to 2010.
The Eurovision artist is also launching a new album. The new release is a mixture of popular Christmas-season music, a couple of special covers and three tracks written specially for this album.
In 1996, Maarja became a true household name of Estonia for representing Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Kaelakee Hääl" (in a duet with Ivo Linna) which would go onto finish 5th at the contest, held in Oslo that year. Meanwhile, Ilus entered the Eurolaul again in 1997, winning with the solo "Keelatud Maa" which finished 8th in the Eurovision Song Contest. The result helped to further solidify her popularity in Estonia, making her second album ‘First In Line’ an instant success.In 2004, she tried again the Eurolaul, performing the self-written "Homme", but failled to qualify to Istambul; she finished 4th in her homeland.
