The Danish Melodi Grand Prix will be a star-spangled competition. The artists, songs and composers were presented during Tuesday by the Danish TV. The contest takes place in the arena Gigantium in Aalborg on the 6th of February. It’s one final with 10 entries, including 3 special invited wildcards. The other 7 have been chosen among 562 songs that have been sent in to the Danish TV.
Bryan Rice (Wildcard) - "Breathing"
Bryan Rice participated in MGP last year as a songwriter ("Underneath My Skin", sang by Christina Undhjem). His breakthrough was in 2005 with the song had a big hit 'No Promises'. “Breathing” is an emotional, heart softened up-tempo pop-ballad written by Peter Bjørnskov.
Joakim Tranberg - "All About A Girl"
“All About A Girl” is written by Ronan Keating and the other composers behind Denmark’s ESC-entry last year, Lars Halvor and Martin Larsson ('Believe Again' with Brinck). The singer Joakim Tranberg is also an actor and well know to the Danish audience from a TV-serie "Elsk mig i nat”. The entry is characterized as a happy pop-song with a little bit of jazz influences.
MariaMatilde Band - "Panik!"
Maria Sejer and Matilde Kühl are the two composers behind the song and they will also perform it. ”Panik”, one of the two entries in Danish. The duo has also composed for other artists during the last years. This happy pop-tune is their debut in MGP.
Simone - "How Will I Know"
Simone sings a ballad composed by the well-known MGP composer Jacob Launbjerg. He was the man behind the winning MGP entry 2005 and 2008. Simone Egeriis became famous in Denmark 2004 when she won the junior category in the TV-competition 'Scenen er din'. “How Will I Know” is a powerful ballade which suppose to give us goose pimples.
Jens Marni – "Gloria"
Noam Halby, Svend Gudiksen and Johannes Jørgensen are the song writers of Gloria. The entry is described as “collage rock style” with drums and guitars. Noam Halby is know from the rockband Johnny Deluxe. Jens Marni is a rock singer from Faroe Islands and has been warm-up artist for Bryan Adams.
Chanée & N'evergreen - "In A Moment Like This"
The song is written by the Swedish trio Thomas G:son, Erik Bernholm and Henrik Sethsson. All well-known from Melodifestivalen. It’s an up-tempo ballad which reminds about The Police, Tina Turner and ABBA. Tomas N'evergreen and Christina Chanee are the singing duo. Tomas is nowadays living in Russia where he has a successful career. He was participating in the Russian national final 2009 with the song "One More Try".
Kaya Brüel (Wildcard) - "Only Tonight"
Kaya is a jazz singer and has also participated in several musicals. The song is is compsed by Kaya Brüel and she describes “Only Tonight” as “a dream”. Kaya’s grandmother Birgit Brüel won the Danish Melodi Grand Prix in year 1965 with the song “For Din Skyld”
Thomas Barsøe - "Just Like Rain"
This is a feel-good pop-song with a catchy groove and everyone can sing-along according the Thomas. Thomas is a pop-soul singer with a great career in Asia. This is his debut in MGP and the song is written by three Swedish composers/producers: Thomas Karlsson, Joakim Övrenius and Patric Jonsson.
Sukkerchok (Wildcard) - "Kæmper For Kærlighed"
This is the second song in Danish language. It is also the second try in MGP for the female trio Kat, Inez and Malene. 2009 they became third with the song "Det' det". “Kæmper For Kærlighed” is a up-tempo disco song written by Lasse Lindorff, Martin Michael Larsson and Lise Cabble, same team that was behind "Det' det".
Silas & Kat - "Come Come Run Away"
Silas Holst is a professional dancer and he has performed in the Danish productions of 'West Side Story' , Chicago and many more. In 2010 he will do one of the main characters in Mamma Mia. Katrine Thisted is the front singer in the band The Kat.
“Come Come Run Away” is rock'n'roll with show-influences. It’s not a happy story, it’s song with parallels to Romeo and Juliet or Bonnie & Clyde. Two against the world! The composer team is Lise Cabble (also involved in "Kæmper For Kærlighed") and Simon Munk.
